Tecmo: Wii U CPU less power than PS3 and Xbox 360

Tecmo has added fire to the already burning question; “Is the Wii U more or less powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360.”

The publisher is bringing plenty of its games to the Wii U when it launches and throughout its lifespan, but the process hasn’t been easy. Dynasty Warriors producer Akihiro Suzuki states that a less powerful CPU is to blame in an interview with Eurogamer:

“One of the weaknesses of the Wii U compared to PS3 and Xbox 360 is the CPU power is a little bit less. So for games in the Warriors series, including Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi, when you have a lot of enemies coming at you at once, the performance tends to be affected because of the CPU. Dealing with that is a challenge.”

“Developing on new hardware in itself was a challenge,” he added, “and also making that launch date was a challenge. But from a visual standpoint, based on the performance of the Wii U, we knew the game had the capability of having much better graphics than games on PS3 and Xbox 360.”

Conflicting reports about the power of the Wii U have been popping up since the console’s reveal at E3 2011. Some have stated that it is more powerful than the current consoles, while others have stated the opposite. I guess we’ll have to wait and see when the console launches to compare the power of the three consoles more evenly.

The Wii U is out November 18 in North America, November 30 in Europe, and December 8 in Japan.
